Empowering Student Voices: Writing & Journalism Workshop at Universal School Jakarta
To welcome the New Year 2026, Universal School Jakarta organised an inspiring Writing & Journalism Workshop designed for students with an interest in journalism, design, reporting, and photography. This workshop served as a platform for students to explore their creativity, develop communication skills, and channel their passion for the world of media and storytelling.
Although it was the school’s first workshop of its kind, the event received an overwhelmingly positive response from students. From the very first session, participants demonstrated great enthusiasm and curiosity, actively engaging in discussions, asking thoughtful questions, and participating fully in every activity prepared for them.
During the workshop, students were introduced to the fundamentals of journalistic writing, including techniques for crafting informative news articles and reports, as well as learning how to communicate messages clearly and responsibly. In addition, they gained valuable insights into visual design, field reporting, and photography, exploring how visuals can strengthen a story and convey information more effectively.
The interactive learning approach made the workshop both enjoyable and relevant to students’ interests. Beyond theoretical learning, students were given opportunities to practise hands-on skills, from developing story ideas and writing simple content to observing how stories can be effectively presented through text and images.
This initiative aligns with Universal School Jakarta’s commitment to supporting the development of students’ talents and interests beyond academics. Through workshops like this, students are encouraged to think critically, confidently express their perspectives, and enhance their creativity and teamwork which are essential skills for the future.
The high level of enthusiasm shown by the participants has motivated Universal School Jakarta to continue offering relevant and meaningful self-development programmes. The Writing & Journalism Workshop is expected to serve as an important first step in building a culture of literacy, communication, and creativity within the school community.
With a positive learning environment, supportive facilities, and guidance from experienced educators, Universal School Jakarta remains committed to providing students with opportunities to grow, express themselves, and prepare for global challenges and it begins with the courage to share their own stories.
