Nurturing Hopes and Character from an Early Age: New Year Resolution Tree at Universal School Jakart

by Admin | 28 February 2026

Welcoming 2026 with renewed enthusiasm, Universal School Jakarta introduced an inspiring activity for the Primary School Department through the New Year Resolution Tree programme. This initiative was designed as a joyful moment of reflection, encouraging children to recognise themselves, express their hopes, and learn the importance of setting goals from an early age

With great excitement, the students wrote their goals and wishes for the new year on leaf-shaped papers. Each leaf carried a simple yet meaningful aspiration, such as becoming more confident when speaking in class, reading more regularly, bravely trying new experiences, or being a more caring friend. These leaves were then displayed on a Resolution Tree, which became a focal point within the school area.

More than just a creative activity, the New Year Resolution Tree is part of Universal School Jakarta’s holistic learning approach. Through this programme, students are introduced to the concepts of goal setting, self-reflection, and personal responsibility in an age-appropriate way. Teachers actively guided the students through light discussions, helping them shape realistic resolutions that can be achieved gradually.

The Resolution Tree, adorned with leaves of hope, serves as a symbol of growth and a reminder that every child has unique potential that deserves to be nurtured and developed. In line with the Cambridge and National Plus curriculum implemented at Universal School Jakarta, this activity highlights the importance of balancing academic achievement with character development.

As a school committed to creating a positive, safe, and inspiring learning environment, Universal School believes that meaningful education begins with understanding a child’s emotional and social needs. Activities such as the New Year Resolution Tree help students feel heard, valued, and motivated to grow, both inside and outside the classroom.

We hope that each resolution leaf hanging on the tree will not only become a beautiful memory at the start of the year, but also a lasting reminder that with the right guidance, a supportive environment, and a strong love for learning, every child can grow into the best version of themselves throughout 2026.
